For a DCB forum!

Since you will only find one or two posts a day here, I almost feel bad that you kids aren’t entertained enough. And as things get busier for me this summer, I don’t anticipate posting frequency to go up anytime soon. I think a forum composed of my readers would be pretty entertaining. Plus it could be a proving ground for future DCB interns.

The one question I’m tackling is whether to allow anonymous posting or not. The issue isn’t with the trolls but with spammers. Trolls are relatively easy to moderate but spammers came from everywhere and are relentless. On some days I’ve had to filter through 400 spam comments, and it’s something I don’t want to deal with on another platform. I prefer anonymous posting because it’s convenient and I realize that some people like using different personas due to mental disorders. Benefits will come with registering, like privately contacting other users, changing the forum style, becoming a superstar, etc.

I found forum software which is bare-bones and fast. You will have sex smilies and that’s about it. I’d like to introduce it early next week.

I prefer registration because it creates accountability. Registering multiple accounts is always an option.

Registration, please. Just makes more sense, and makes it more difficult for trolls looking to prop up their own failing blogs.

Interesting. Didn’t know spammers visited blog sites. How different would a DCB forum be than what you already have on here other than the set up?

What’s the difference between a troll, a commenter, and a reader? The way I thought I understood it, a troll is like a lurker, someone who reads without commenting. But isn’t a lurker just a reader? And I don’t get the accusation that commenters are just “looking to prop up their own… blogs”? What would you like us to do ideally? Read without comment? What fun would that be? Maybe I need a tutorial.

Trolls are those that go “trolling” for attention with bait (inflammatory comments that they likely don’t even mean) to get attention.

    Yay I love forums!!

Yea, I think trolls are those who just go to message boards to cause trouble and bother the regulars.

Oh, and I’m down with registration. If people want multiple personalities, get multiple names.

Huge mistake….The only reason I even read this blog is because of the comment section. Its the digital “Improv” without the cheap beer and food. Methinks you should let it stand the way it is because people enjoy posting with ease under disturbed names like Al-E-Gator…or Dick Sauce.

Plus you have frickin interns working for you so why not dump the spam cleanup on them along with cleaning the toilet and garbage disposal…preferrable turned on..

Well, if you wanted a decent messageboard, I think I could provide you with an invisionboard license.

    Least it would look swank

O-face made a good point about the interns.

By the way O-face… if I ever open up a sweathsop in my basement, I’ll be calling you for management tips.
