I’ve had my wisdom teeth in for years now and they’ve caused zero problems. So what they’re impacted. I don’t really understand the concept of going through surgery with its long recovery time and possible complications to address a problem that may never arrive. I figure this is a money-making scheme that starts at the top of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and trickles its way all the way down to the American Dental Association. But I succumbed. The nagging has gone on for three years, and I hate nagging. Plus I’m young with health insurance, and it does seem odd that I have teeth sticking out halfway through my gums. Besides, I’m sure teeth extraction technology has advanced from the days of metal tools and pliers. The doctor will vaporize my teeth with a friggin’ laser beam in a bloodless operation.

I decided beforehand to get local anesthesia only. I think it’s fine for women to go under because they are physically weak and can not handle pain. But no real man would go under to just get a couple teeth pulled. I also wanted to avoid the weird anal soreness side-effect of anaesthesia that happened to me last time I went under.

The first thing I noticed when I got in the operation room was the dental tray of metal tools and pliers. There was a 40 mL syringe of Novocaine, which by syringe standards is gigantic. (For a simple cavity, the syringe is no large than 5 mL.) The most painful part of the entire surgery was in the beginning when the doctor had to poke all over my mouth with this needle. Note: the roof of your mouth does not like getting stabbed with a sharp object. I anticipated the pliers to make an early appearance but was surprised when he pulled out a small metal stick instead. He put it against a wisdom tooth at top and just pushed down with moderate force. It came out within 30 seconds. “Wowww that wazzzz eeeeassy!” (Remember my mouth was completely numb.)

The next tooth was at the bottom. The same stick did not do the trick. He brought out a lot more metal sticks and used a bit more force. Then the drill came out. It was the biggest drill I’ve ever seen in my life. He would drill a little bit then attempt to use brute strength to get the tooth out. It still wasn’t coming out. He brought out the pliers for this one and I learned that teeth are pretty loud when they crack. Several times he braced against the chair and my body to get enough leverage to muscle the tooth out. I remember his arm was pressed against my forehead at one point, like he was trying to put me in a sleeper hold. All that force was going into one side of my jaw so I asked for a few breaks. During one break, the doctor looked frustrated and walked out the room.

He came back five minutes later and poked my mouth with some more Novocaine. “Oh no, he’s going to bust out with some experimental shit!” He would use a tool, slam it on his table, sigh, then stare at all his tools for a couple seconds to decide what to use next. I tried to pretend I couldn’t see the frustration in his face. He was mad at my tooth, and was tired of taking its shit. Who did the tooth think it was fucking with? Finally after about 15 minutes, before having to bring out the saw from storage, he got it out. I needed a break. I stood up and noticed my “Grandma Loves Me” bib was covered with blood.

He had a different strategy for each tooth. The last tooth got a lot of plier action: pulling, cracking, twisting. After about five minutes, I heard him say “Jeez!” as he pulled the final monster from my mouth. It was gigantic and ugly, like a turd left by a medium-sized animal. It was over. There is no fourth tooth because I’m a mutant.

Advice to those of you who still have your wisdom teeth: DON’T DO IT. And if it eventually does cause problems, only take out one at a time. You will be less likely to go through days of recovery, where the different stages of your facial appearance represents a species from the animal kingdom:

Day 1: Elephant man
Day 2: Chipmunk
Day 3: Hamster storing peanuts

Now excuse me while I go wash the blood spots from my pillowcases.

I slept on my friend’s couch for 3 days while she made jello, mashed potatoes, and prepared several bag o’corn compasses for my jaw.

I hope you don’t have to deal with the numbness that doesn’t go away. Apparently, sometimes the wisdom tooth removal procedure causes major stress to the nerves and they go numb for a while (like 3 months in my case). The feeling is slowly returning to my bottom lip and left-side of my chin. I definitely felt like a mutant.

Wow, I am SO glad they put me out for mine…that sounded awful!

And take those dry socket warnings seriously…you do not want to mess with that after everything else.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled out in the same manner a few years ago. It really isn’t so bad if you can get psst the huge cracking noises. Maybe your maxillo facial surgeon wasn’t as experienced or talented as mine. I don’t recommend having one tooth pulled per appointment. It is simply a waste of time. All 4 of my wisdom teeth were impacted and were completely removed at the same appointment. A bit of swelling, tenderness and soreness afterwards, but so much TLC from friends and family. The only thing I got sick of was the constant intake of soft mushy food for a few days. NO big deal. I thought you were tougher than that DCB. ” “

Advice to those of you who still have your wisdom teeth: GET THE FULL KNOCK-YOU-OUT ANESTHESIA

I think it’s easier the earlier you get them removed, because they become more and more impacted. I got mine out pretty early, and I didn’t even really need the Percocet they gave me. I did have the facial swelling for a couple days though.

Also, not getting the anesthesia is insane. Doodoo bat insane.

I got the knock-you-out anesthesia and still woke up at the end crying. Yes crying, but not from the pain, removing the wisdom tooth pulled at my eye nerves and caused me to cry the whole time he removed the tooth and I completely woke up out of the anesthesia

The thing was, I had put it off for a year and there was a gaping hole where the tooth was growing in, but because it was impacted, it didn’t grow in. I got several infections in that hole. So if you are getting infections due to your wisdom teeth, get them removed - and all at the same time.

My experience was a lot less dramatic, but traumatic nonetheless. I woke up after he’s done, and suddenly I have the urge to vomit. The sight of coagulated blood is not exactly what I had expected. “Oh… that’s normal” the Doc says.

whoever told you not to be put under gave you terrible advice. I had all 4 pulled with 3 of them impacted. the initial surgery wasn’t as bad as the drysockets to come. they were awful.

My advice, no matter if them fuckers push all your teeth forward into a freaky grin, don’t do it. It will suck, I just have a feeling.

I watched Behind The Music: KISS when I got my wisdom teeth pulled. Awesome! “You’re going to feel a little pressure” means “I’m putting a crowbar to your tooth right now.”

I got local anesthesia too, and I agree–I never realized that a shot in the roof of my mouth would be so painful. Also, the taste of the cotton strips they give to put in your mouth can make you gag.

Try not to get on an airplane anytime soon. I flew a few days after the surgery, and the cabin pressure made me want to shoot myself.

I had four removed when I was 18. I threw up later, mostly because the anesthesia made me sick, but was on a jetski the next day.

Getting your wisdom teeth out is NOT that bad!! I went under, took some vicodin once or twice afterwards and I was set. There was little to no pain for me. It’s so much worse to keep them and have them mess up your alignment - plus its harder to brush them since theyre so far back which can lead to more cavity problems. GET THEM OUT!!!

if you are slightly assymetrical (that is, one side of you is larger than the other) then it is likely that the less developed side, which includes the jawline, will not produce a wisdom tooth, usually on the lower jaw.

I got all four of mine removed when I was 16. It took me all of two days to recover, with minimal swelling. I guess I’m lucky.

I did have fun with my percocet though. I also made a bit of cash selling the ones I didn’t use. :D

I had laughing gas plus local. It was grand. After the novocaine wore off, it was bad.

I was told to get my wisdom teeth out eight years ago and I still have them. They’ve only hurt two or three times in eight years. Oddly, I only have two wisdom teeth, both on the bottom jaw.

Dentists have been giving me the gloom ‘n doom for over 10 years about them, but fuck ‘em. I am not pulling them until they hurt, which means I fucked up in cleaning them. You should be spending 2 minutes to brush your teeth anyway.

I just got an infected and decayed wisdom tooth out two days ago. I had a local not a general, and as a woman I resent that comment about not being able to take the pain.

Try getting 10 stitches and part of the skin in your throat removed from the infection of the decayed tooth and be at work the next day.

It was not that bad….although, I don’t plan on waiting this long again. I thought I had a sore throat, but it turned out that I had an infected wisdom tooth. I will get the other three out (using local not a general) relatively soon.

I had to find another wisdom tooth story to console me as I sit here in pain. I don’t really know what’s going on in my mouth because my oral surgeon is out of town. I have a feeling I might have dry sockets because that’s the kind of luck I have. However I feel like a hermit because I’m venturing outside today after six days in the house. There was no drilling or cutting involved and there are still remnants of tooth in the empty spots. OH MY GOOD LORD. I was looking for tips for when you get them removed, but didn’t expect this. Today is Tuesday. All four of mine come out on Thursday. They’re all partially impacted. NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS AT ALL. I’m almost 27, and finally got dental insurance. They told me years ago to get ‘em pulled, and I should’ve, because they’ve hurt off & on through the years. I just had mine removed today, and I’ve got to admit that I was sorta nervous. I’d been putting the whole thing off for a long time too, but when my dentist informed me that 3 out of my 5–yes, 5 wisdom teeth–were cavity-ridden I broke down & let my unsettlingly eager tooth guru refer me to an oral surgeon. The best part was the laughing gas they had me on for 2 hours before the doc was ready. If you’re getting ready to have the teeth done, I recommend bringing an ipod or something along not only to play some relaxing tunes, but to enjoy the laughing gas to its full effect. The room was maybe 50 degrees, which I guess is something they do for the people going under general to keep them from getting sick, so they gave me a blanket and put a blindfold over my eyes where I enjoyed my incredibly long nitrous oxide trip The tooth extraction itself only took about 10-15 min; it was minimally traumatizing because the blindfold kept me from seeing all the machinery they used. Overall, the trip wasn’t too bad; still, it was only about 10 hours ago and I’ll be flying over the rockies in 4 days so I’m probably not out of the woods yet.

I just had mine out yesterday, and I’m feeling a little tender today. The process itself was actually quite pleasant, but that could be because I chose the IV versat, novocaine, and laughing gas route. They do give you plenty of happy drugs for the pain after, the only really bad part for me is that one of my stitches is coming undone and I’m gagging on the string.
I’d say definitely get them out, and do it sooner rather than later. You recover faster the younger you are, and just because you have no problems with them at 20 doesn’t mean they won’t mess sh*t up when you’re thirty.
Plus getting the queen-treatment from everyone around is kinda nice, too.

i just got my wisdom teeth out this morning. The too top werealittle bit out and the bottoms diddnt even hit the gum yet. So i decided to get needles and the laughing gas. I was so high i didnt feel anything nor did i know what was going on. It was great. If u have to choose go with the laughing gas, dont get put asleep because theres a chance you wont wake up :( After words but jaw was so numb and when it wore off it was hard to swallow the pills so i was in so much pain. Its not that bad, just take the first day off and relax. my mistake was to go shopping and let my teeth bleed so much.

I was advised to have three wisdom teeth removed in Feb but decided to go with only the one that was decaying. Told the reception that and also the nurse the same thing i.e only the top left removal. Got IV anaesthesia and I remember coming out of - I was in splits hitting my head against the head rest, almost falling of the chair. I had seen a funny movie last night about a dentist who accidentaly removed the tooth of the person accompanying the patient (who had gone away for a moment) despites protest. The scene was too funny and it kept coming back to me. I am taken to the recovey room still very drowsy but high and happy. My first asks me if I am ok. God help me I am seeing two of her. She then asks me how many teeth I had removed - I point and say one. The the nurse comes in and tells me that all three have been removed! I no more LMAO……But try this watch a funny movie the night before the removal and do take anaesthia. Do ask the person who is going to drive you home to take a video. Worth the memory. I never remembering laughing so much my whole life….DO ENJOY getting high legally.

I haven’t gotten my wisdom teeth out yet, but I was just at the dentist a few weeks ago and he said they looked fine and wouldn’t need to come out for a while. (It would be risky due to other health problems I have) Then today I was swishing my tongue around my mouth after brushing my teeth to make sure it didn’t still feel plaquie anywhere and my upper right side felt a little swollen. I stuck my finder back there to investigate and it feels like there is a tooth growing in!!!!!! I am pretty concerned that it might start coming in, since I shouldn’t really be taking the risk of a bacterial infection or God forbid DRY SOCKETS after what I have gone through.

By the way DCB, pretty sure you are by far one of the most foolish men on this planet. Saying women can’t take pain is silly and irresponcible. Pretty sure statistics prove that women take pain better than men…just ask most tattoo artists who do better when they get tattoos. Second…ever heard of childbirth? I’d like to see how you would feel with a 7 lb. bulge coming out of the vagina you obviously have. Third, pretty sure I had a bone marrow transplant a year ago and have suffered more than you can ever imagine…and yet…I am a woman and still dealing with the pain of side effects such as deteriorating hip bones and knees, and oh yes, now my elbow. Yeah all that and I spent 2 months in the hospital throwing up chunks of my esophogus that had ripped off from my chemo.

I just finished hading surgery 2 hours ago…and i am feeling extreamly Dizzy right now after using the full knock out treatment…the whole process does not hurt so you dont really have too be nervous.

I have a decayed impacted wisdom tooth sched to be removed next week. After reading all this I feel so confident.. (yeah sure). First I have to have it xrayed, reviewed by the dentist because mine is aligned horizontally. Im bringing my Ipod along with tons of heavy metal music. Pantera, System of the Down, may some RATM.

She (my dentist) told me its going to take 2 hours at least. I did told her i cant handle pain, she says “so you like being single”. harhar-

My dentist was great but it did take him a long time 2 hours to get all four of mine they were in there good, all i had was the local shots and they hurt the worst but even that wasnt that bad just felt like a bee sting but better because it does not last, i thought at one point that my jaw would dislocate but it didnt, it is a little sore today, I brought my I-POD and listened to the Passion play about Jesus that helped me to deal with the pain, but i was dumb after procedure i got a bottle of vodka and drank 1/2 of it straight away and i probably could have worked the entire next day but due to the hangover i had to go home after just two hours because of the nausea after my hangover wore off i was glad to have whatever pain i had as long as i was not puking.

I had 3 wisdom teeth extracted over 3 months ago and I am still experiencing complications. I had to have an ulcer removed three days ago. It hasn’t been fun, but the pain from the infections I’ve had is much worse than the actual extraction. I’ve also had surgery for sinuses and a deviated septum, in which they actually break and restructure your nose, and it is much more painful than the extraction of wisdom teeth. And your teeth weren’t even impacted, which makes the process much more painful. You’re a big whiny baby if I’ve ever heard one and it sure seems like you didn’t “take it like a man.”

Oh wow, am schdled for my 4 wisdom extraction this saturday, and reading all this, has kind of dampened me to bits! Would it be alright to travel (like a 20 hours journe by air)after a month or so ? please do share

Anon: you should be okay a month after. You will just have to pack the syringe your doctor gives you to help get food out of the new holes in your mouth.

im sitting here in pain from a decayed partly impacted wisdom tooth….i ve been to an oral surgeon for consultation a week ago, he told me about possible nerve damage…im 40, and pretty scared of having the extraction because of that reason….can anyone put my mind at rest

I had my wisdom teeth removed 7 days ago and felt like I had hard sharp throbing pain on the bottom right tooth so I went back in after 3 days passed to get it checked. The Oral surgen told me everything was fine and that it was to early to tell if it was a dry socket, well 4 days later I couldn’t take the pain any longer so i demanded for them to look at it in depth and they determined that it was a dry socket. Filled it with a bunch of stuff and felt so much better my questions to you all is when you use the syringe to cleanse does it kinda hurt when you place it in the socket? And if you had all 4 removed how do you find or even get to syringe the top two????

I would like to know the same thing as June. They told me about possibly permanent nerve damage. How often does this occur? What’s it like?
This nerve damage business would make or break my decision about getting my five wisdom teeth removed.

thing is…i dont have a choice i have to have my bottom left wisdom tooth removed as its decaying badly, im now on my second round of antibioticsin 3 weeks for another infection…im booked in to have it removed on october 12. apparently the chances of nerve damage is very low…to be honst, i just wanna get the damn tooth taken out now as its rotten, and rotten teeth lead to bad health

doug…my wisdom tooth was infected..the dentist can tell straight away ..i had severe pain, swelling on the gum, and pains all around the lower jaw etc…i ve just finished two lots of antibiotics and next week will have to have the tooth removed…if i dont get it removed, i will kep getting infections and pain..u need to get your tooth checkedby the dentist

I had the bottom left wisdom tooth removed this past Monday. Everything seems to be back to normal(no swelling or bleeding). However, there is a dull throb still there. Is that normal ?

really though ppl? I’m on day 4, and honestly it’s not a heart transplant. The worst part about the whole thing is you wanna eat regular food. If you are mentally handicaped then maybe you should be afraid. As long as you just do what they tell you and don’t do dumb shit for a couple of days. Honestly someone actually wrote they went skiing the next day? 1st graders can follow the directions, and if you just do what you are told it’s not a big deal at all. I got the IV, and the surgery was the easiest thing in the world. The day of the surgery is just a pain taking care of the wounds. No worries.

I had my bottom left wisdom out yesterday….im a bit sore but other than that, i ve got no problems…didn t need stitches and i had 4 local anaesthetic injections….yea im spitting out a bit of bllod here an there but im fine….

Well I got them all out this morning. My bottom lip and chin area is still completely numb…that is worrying me. I hope there is no permanent nerve damage. I haven’t really started feeling that much pain yet. I’m figuring tomorrow it will be much more sore.

my anaesthetic wore off within two hours and boy didnt i feel the pain…..but i only had one tooth out so maybe if you have all four out, they give you more injection? i was worried about this dry socket thing…but ican feel the blood formed into a clot in the hole…i just gotta rinse with salt water now….:huh2:

Well it’s 4:30 in the morning and I just woke up. I started to feel awful so I just took my percocets and went to sleep. Nice surprise, I can feel my chin and lip completely again! I guess they told me I seemed to have a high tolerance for the anaesthetic, and they had to give me a lot. Now my jaw is sore, especially the area where they took out the bottom teeth. A crappy thing unrelated is that my allergies/sinuses are annoying me - I’ve had a headache and my ears are bothering me. At least today, I can start rinsing with the warm salt water.

I ve still got small amount of pain since thursday….just waiting for healing…………..

I guess I’m healing okay? It’s day four. The stitches he gave me are bothering me more than anything. Not too much pain, my jaw is just sore in general. I go back next Monday for my follow up. I hope I don’t have food stuck in the holes. I can’t really tell. I’ve been eating just jello and pudding and anything mush. Can’t really chew yet.

I just had my wisdom teeth out yesterday, I got the IV sedation and it wasn’t that bad at all.. the worst part was they couldn’t find a vain to put the iv in cuz my vain’s are so lttle so they litterally poked me 10 times. After thry finally put the Iv in I was knocked out before I knew it.After the procedure was finished I did feel a little lightheaded and vomited about 3 times last night, took 1 vicoden & was good. Woke up this morning still a little drowsy with very little pain, also having a little trouble breatheing prob cuz of the oxygen.

Don’t belive all the hype and horror stories it not that bad.

I had two on my left side removed two and a half weeks ago and I’m feeling pain in the area along with headache around my left temple. I had local anastesia and it took the dentist about an hour and 45 minutes to cut out the tooth under the gum. The upper wisdom tooth came out in 10 minutes. I went back to make sure I didn’t have dry socket and they claimed the pain was from the teeth next to my wisdom teeth, totally unrelated. They did a pulpectomy on those, but I’m still feeling pain that’s under control with a couple of advil.

I have a hunch that the pain was somehow related to the wisdom teeth because of where its at, but I had to fix these teeth anyway.

My advice would be to be really careful with the blood clots falling out i.e. no spitting or rinsing for a day or two, I think that’s what’s really taking me so long to recover.

Its 2 weeks since i had my wisdom tooth out bottom left, im glad i did, i had two months of severe pain and anitibiotics…was awlful. its not bad atall, if your in pain with a wisdom tooth and its rotton, get it taken out……i have to have my right bottom wisdom removed after christmas…

Hey, I had what appeared to be an infection in a pocket below my impacted top left wisdom tooth. I had my bottom ones out when I was 20. Dentist told me my top ones would were there but would never be an issue. I’m 40 now and the tooth pain caused by the infection near my wisdom tooth brought me to my knees. went from my dentist to my endontist (root canal specialist) to oral surgeon.

They had to remove the wisdom tooth to make sure the infection didn’t get to the bone..(needed to scrape the bone)..

Going under rules. I wish I could do it ALL the time LOL…

Recovery has been fine.. the usual, swelling, small bruise, which is gone now.

Today is day 9 and well.. I’m experiencing a bit of pain.. more like a twinge or throb once in awhile in my upper cheek. I don’t know if it’s healing pain or something different.. I have a checkup on Tuesday, but will call the office tomorrow.. It feels a bit late for potential dry socket yes/no?

I really have to say, I’ve had a lot of dental work over the years and I have to say, having the option of general anesthetic is something you should really consider..

The actual proceedure took about 20 minutes?

you heal quicker. rebound faster. Get them all out at once if you can. The sooner and younger you are the better. Just saves you some unecessary pain and cost down the road..

I just got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out last thursday and I gotta tell ya, I hope to die with the rest of my teeth. I cried when he told me it was over because the numbness was uncomfortable. The pain wasn’t so bad b/c I took my medicine on target but I did have a dry socket and the pain meds didn’t even help it but the doctor made it feel better and told me what to do if it acts up again. I’m still on comfort foods, but I have graduated to eating scrambled eggs. I’m ok, i’m back at work but my regular teeth are trying to adjust, which I thought was weird until my doctor told me that the nerves were connected and thus the reason why I have pain in my lower teeth but that happened after a regular cleaning. But, I”m 25 and I wish I had gotten this done when I was younger, but if you follow directions and just relax, you’ll have no problem. If possible ask your doctor not to give you the meprozine, try hydrocodine. Meprozine gave me nightmares and I kept hallincinating. But, other than that I’m cool and tomorrow i’ll be a week. It still hurts when I yarn or smile but all and all not bad but I’m ready to eat some real food. But good luck to ya!

I’m 15 and recently had my wisdom teeth “cut out.” (5 days ago) And i must say, it is not bad at all having them taken out before they are fully grown. Mine were causing me problems because i’ve had 6 years of dental work. (i was pretty messed up with a crossbite and overbite, but now my teeth are incredible) Basically, they weren’t growing in the correct way and would have messed up all the hard work I had gone through for the last 1/3 of my life by moving my teeth. Anyway, I got the general anesthesia and escaped the torturous cracks, snaps, and pops that i have heard of through countless stories I have read (unfortunately in yours.)

And the afterwards of this painless event….. pretty much remained painless. I learned however, if you begin to feel as though you’re feeling hardly any pain and haven’t had any painkillers in the time you’re supposed to take them, you better frikin’ take them. Don’t think just ’cause the pain is gone that you can get away for the rest of the day, that decision will come back to haunt you.

Other then that, i woke up after the procedure many times before i was able to go home, and when i finally was concsious enough to leave (only an hour later), i couldnt feel a frikin’ thing. After getting home, i slept for 6 more hours and moved on as though nothing had happened…. except for the humongous blood consumed things in my mouth called cotton. i thought i had a full grown, just caught in the rain bunny rabbit in my mouth. Once i to tossed the damn things out and took some more painkillers, the worst part was over. Yes, it got irritating having to eat only mashed potatoes on thanksgiving and days afterward, but i think this procedure is absolutely worth it. Maybe not if your teeth are fully grown in and not causing trouble, but if they have hardly come in or you dont want them to cause trouble in the future get it done.

And there is nothing wrong with getting the general anesthesia, especially if you are a man. I mean WTF, accusing women of being physically weak when they are the ones that undergo child birth and we aren’t. Yes, us men have more testosterone which cause an increase in muscle mass, but come on, do you think your dad could have handled you coming out of him….

But that’s all besides the point, i think everyone willing enough to spare a few bucks, and by that i mean an unecessary lump sum should get this done for themselves.

just thought i’d pay a little credit to the pain tolerance of women. maybe it would mean a little more coming to you from a doctor. for all the macho pain-enduring males on this thread, it would serve you well to know that women have higher pain thresholds than men pre- and post-birthing. you may now pop your confidence with that pin.

How long is the recovery time? I want to schedule off work for the surgery but I don’t know how much time I need to recover.

As far as pain goes, i was pain free in a little less than a week. But it does still feel a little weird to eat most things for a little longer then that. After i got my check up a week later everything was back to normal.

Well..i got my wisdom teeth out the 6th and let me tell you it was hell. The nerve was wrapped around one of my wisdom teeth and so they had to move the nerve which caused my tongue to have no feeling. They have me on steroids to help get the feeling back, and it sucks soo bad. i just wanna eat 6 big macs. Im glad ill only have to do this once in my whole life. Better sooner than later!

Hahaha, once i could actually eat stuff (or thought i could) the first thing i got was a double quarter pounder. I needed to have something that wasnt partially liquid or tastes like crap.

I had some teeth taken out yesterday. It didn’t hurt until today when I got a headache. Also, why do I need to wash with SALT water?

washing with warm salt water will help prevent an infection

wow, after reading this again and seeing how much you degrade women, i’m beginning to believe ur a gay prick who has to have an excuse not to like women. And as a side note, the whole “anal soreness” BS you gave about the anestesea is yet another crappy excuse to help you hide the fact that you love having an 8 inch rod going all the way up to your colon. well, it made me feel a bit better to read all these stories. I’m a 25 year old female and just got all four wisdom teeth removed yesterday morning. I didn’t have insurance but you know what? They were hurting like hell, making my jaw ache (I have a very small mouth and jaw- couldn’t fit them), sometimes to the point of stabbing pains, and possibly contributing to an ongoing problem with migraines. Health is more important than money and I had a feeling it was the right thing to do.

They put me under with morphine and valium by IV, which was pretty nice. It took about a day to wear off. It took half an hour and I could feel the orthodontist pushing my face around, talking to the nurse (couldn’t understand what they were saying) and at one point heard a drill, but couldn’t feel anything. When I came out of it I had a brief urge to cry but didn’t, and my legs shook for a little while, then I was fine.

My main problem is an overwhelming urge to swallow to get rid of the pasty gross feeling and taste in my mouth. I would try not to by sort of drooling into a paper towel, because every time I swallowed I would feel it pulling on the sockets- a HORRIBLE feeling. They only gave me tylenol ones for the pain. They make me sleep for a little while but when I wake up, I instinctively swallow hard before I know what I’m doing and the pain is unbearable. I think from the swallowing I may have given myself dry-socket in one of the holes. fk.

Day two and it’s pretty uncomfortable, and I wish this weird salivating would stop. And I wish they had given me vicadin or whatever it’s called. Or more of that morphine.

oh, and the evening of, I broke down and rinsed with salt water, because I felt like it was important to keep them clean. If I contributed to my own acquiring of dry-socket by doing that, I feel like a huge ass. But it seemed better than letting the holes fester in a bunch of chocolate ensure.

I just got my wisdom teeth out last friday.. the 5th.. todays tuesday and i had a trip planned to nyc but i dont even know if i can go. the procedure was fine. i was numb for 14 hours and didn’t really swell that much or bruise at all.. Everyone’s experience is different so it is unfair to tell people that this is so simple. I thought i was fine until i went to sleep sunday night and had this ringing noise in my ear and woke up with unbearable jaw pain and a huge ear ache…. The ear ache has subsided but the jaw pain is still there.. it’s not really in the socket but more on the body and ramus of the mandible. Also along with those two messes I have the worst stomach ache and can’t eat a thing. I dont know if I am sick on top of the wisdom teeth pain but im hoping to feel better. My mom is a dental assistant and she said she doesn’t think it’s a dry socket because the pain would be worse.. but maybe ill just go to nyc and make the best of it. This experience has sucked but good luck to all of you.

I’m 43 years old, and I had my top and bottom wisdom teeth on my right side removed 6 days ago. Still pretty painful, pretty swollen. Not much fun at all.

IMPORTANT ADVICE:

First of all, bring an iPod or something. The sound of them doing what they’re doing is terrifying. You need to blast music into your head at full volume to try to avoid hearing that.

Second, get the general anesthesia. I didn’t. I got local, plus some nitrous oxide. Wish I had gotten the general. You would swear for all the world that Alec Guiness has his foot on your chest and is trying to pull your teeth out with a pair of pliers. I thought he might break my jaw, or snap the tooth in half. Plus, the sounds of him doing this are terrifying and sickening.

It seems like the pain has not really subsided that much in 6 days. Clearly, it’s going to take at least 2-3 weeks for the pain to really go away. Another beautiful goddam benefit of getting older and older.

I had all four of mine pulled on Friday the 5th, that part wasn’t too bad except thinking I had been abducted by aliens when I woke up… I was really lucky, no bruising or swelling, but damn the pain. I did a couple of stupid things, first the day after the surgery I bent over to put my hair in a towel which immediately caused a surge of pressure and even more pain. And then I think I went back to work a little too early because Monday was a blur. Every day I started feeling better, but still had a lot of pain in one of my bottom holes. Went in this Thursday for the recheck and they packed the two bottom holes with some kind of clove tasting anteseptic material. The pain went away within 30 minutes and I thought I was in the clear. Well since my surgeon had told me I could finally eat whatever I wanted, I ate some real food for the first time in a week. By the end of the night, the clove soaked cotton or gauze or whatever it is, was coming out of the holes. Friday morning I called them and went in to have it replaced. Turns out they had tried to pack in too much of the stuff. So this time he really jammed it in there and I was reassured it would stay…. well it’s now early Sunday morning and the crap is coming out again! Has anyone else ever had this? I love the fact that it helps with the pain so I’m not in looney vicadin land all the time, but man the taste of cloves really jacks up everything else you try to eat. Well I guess I can deal with it if it helps prevent dry socket. I go back next Thursday for another check up and to get the stuff out… if it’s still there.

I just got all 4 taken out and I am in looney land from the hydrocodine. I was completely sedated and at first it was terrifying, but when I came out I had made up a “I gotta piss” song. It is 24 hours later and I am still in the bed, taking my meds, and just relaxing. As of now, the experience hasn’t been as bad as everyone has said (my stomach has been alittle upset). My mom has been making potato soup and jello cups so I am cool. The best part is that I am 32 years old, so I guess it does depend on many individual factors as to how the surgery goes.

welp, i had all four out about a week ago,3 were impacted and the pain has subsided in the last 3 days. i was knocked out and they must of gave me laughing gas because i woke up cracking up with my mouth full of gauze. so right afterwards i was like this wasnt so bad. but an hour later, i was in agony it the one the most horrible things i ever went through. it was so bad for me because i think they dislocated my jawbone in the process, and it was so swollen i couldnt talk and forget about eating. im still not eating normally because i dont want to let food get back there. it was awful, but all-in-all after about a week i feel much, much better!

my gums are starting to hurt a little and i can feel the wisodm teeth starting to come in. im wondering if i should go to the dentist and find out if i should take them out.

Well, I had two wisdom teeth removed this morning (top right and bottom right). It’s 6pm and I have some feeling back in my tongue, cheek, and jaw so I guess that’s a good sign. This whole “Dry Socket” thing has me a bit concerned though because it sounds like a next-to-death experience. Funny stories on here though which eases the pain!

Today is Thursday and I had my bottom left wisdom tooth on Monday night - under local (don’t recommend it). I did everything by the book and still got the dreaded dry socket and it REALLY, REALLY hurts. ‘They’ say that some people just get dry socket. Great. I am taking ibuprofen and co-codamol (plus antibiotics), which are keeping the pain bearable-ish, but make me sick. I doubt that I’ll be back to work until next week as I feel awful and have done all week. I can’t wait to feel ok again because this is horrible.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the really nasty taste in my mouth too - apparently another sympton of dry socket. God it hurts.

I got my wisdom teeth out on Thursday .. It is now 2 Fridays later .. My teeth were perfectly fine, and didn’t hurt at all but then I got infections in the holes on the two bottom sides .. The infections are now cleared up and don’t bother me but my teeth are still shifting and becoming more, and more painful .. Even to brush them I am almost in tears .. My bottom lip also keeps losing feeling every couple of minutes, only in one spot though .. It’s really painful .. Worse than the wisdom teeth themselves coming out .. I was also put under to get my teeth out, but I woke up during the surgery, I could hear everything that was going on, see blurrs around me that I knew were the doctor and nurses, but I couldn’t feel anything.

I had the lower left removed on Feb 6th. I’m 50 years old…obviously I waited too long. The extraction was uneventful. I just had local. All was fine for three days…then the dry socket came. WAY worse than the extraction. It is now Feb 18th and I am STILL in pain. I was told that everybody is different and heal at different rates. I am having the uppers removed in about six weeks. They say uppers cause less problems than lowers. I guess I’ll find out next month.

I just went t the dentist for srays today. Im 23 and feared my wisdom teeth ere impacted. 2 years ago my original dentist said my wisdom teeth “should probably come out soon” Well alil over 2 years later the teeth are all errupted and nice and straight. Apparantly this isn’t common for most people. Anyway i brush regularly and floss maybe afew times a week. This didnt stop a cavity from forming on my top left wisdom tooth. So all its gonna be for me is a pull of the top and botttom left wisdom tooth. I was sooooo happy they werent impacted and i only need the tooth removed b/c of the cavity, i guess i lucked out.

P.S. dentists reccommend that you get at least 2 teeth removed at a time so it fits your bite. My bottom wisdom doesnt have problems but it wont fit my bite and could damage my gum if not removed so it will be.

I had all four wisdom teeth out just short of a week ago. The operation day, other than the oral surgeon cutting open my lips with the extractors, went without serious problems. The work I had done - two upper wisdom teeth (that were exposed); right lower wisdom tooth - impacted and growing sideways and almost sharing a root of a neighbouring molar; left unexposed wisdom tooth with a cyst growing (that could be cancerous? It’s currently at biopsy…) All that and being 29 doesn’t help me - not to mention my phobia of dentistry….

Day two; Bleeding is starting to subside, but lack of sleep due to trying to keep my head elevated to avoid swelling is starting to kick my ass. Even though I started on day one doing the salt water rinses as instructed after any meal (which consists of mainly liquids - nothing hot of course), they really DO HELP…Cold compresses definitely help in rotation 20 min on/20 min off.

Day three; It’s annoying that the pain and swelling still remain…The pain has shifted to “Sympathy Pains” in the rest of my teeth - just trying to adjust to the new jaw plans…?

Day four; stopped taking Tylenol 3’s @ 2:30 a.m. because they we making me somewhat loopy…Went out to the drug store for a milder tylenol. Still can’t close my jaw fully, so no good food yet. Diet mainly consists of Milkshakes, scrambled eggs mashed against the roof of my mouth to break them down, and soup (luke warm).

Day five; was actually going to stay home but ended up going to a convention with friends - food situation sucked, but made out good - jaw gets sore from talking too much.

Day six; had to go to work, good thing it was a Saturday and work load was minimal.

Today Day seven; Sympathy Pains and fat lower lip seem to be plaguing me, bruising has turned to yellowish-green now. Still can’t properly chew food or close jaw without pain. Stitches seem to be getting more annoying than usual.

What I learned:
-whatever gauze the dentist provides, ask for plenty more, as the bleeding seems relentless.
-If you can deal with the pain post surgery at around 3 days, try to stop the use of highly addictive drugs - vicodin/percoset/tylenol 3. Sidenote: anything with codine can constipate you, and given you are not eating a lot of solid foods - maybe not the best means to be taking.
-put on any lip gloss before going into surgery if you suffer from dry lips, or want to prevent what happened to me with the cutting of my lips.

***Good luck for those who have to embark on the unpleasant task of wisdom teeth removal! I’m sure there is a true reason to remove them…

Well..I just had my wisdom teeth pulled today, 3 of them. Being knocked out is not for just women, that’s just ridiculous. I was knocked out and I felt it was better because I don’t want to watch what he’s doing, I want to close my eyes, and wake up being all done and numb, then wait for the pain to come into effect. I was horrified at first once they started putting on all of the monitor equipment. I really don’t even remember most of it, all I remember is my mother being there because well obviously, you can’t drive after all the drugs your on. I just remember them telling me to sing a song I didn’t know, then the next thing I know, I’m being walked to a chair with a blanket, it wasn’t much fun, but in a few days, it will be a lot better off than I was before. I was waking up at 3 am in agony, not just once, but very often throughout the day. I’m going to have to say though, getting those teeth removed are going to be a lot better than standing the pain each and every day.

o gosh. well i guess im a mutant 2, but not in da fact dat i have 2 wisdom teeth. 2day, i went 2 get one pulled out, but da dentist decided 2 wait, and describe 2 me wats goin on..well, I have 5 wisdom teeth. on my lower left jaw, the wisdom tooth is slanted and pointing at my teeth. rite next 2 it iz anotha tooth. da other r pretty much facin my teeth also instead of upwards

I had all four removed on Monday, March 19th. I must say that the worst part so far was all of the pre-extraction psychological strain. I was terrified of nerve damage and getting a dry socket. The door opened and I was taken to “the last room on the left” where I was seated. I was in for the full knock-out anesthesia. Thankfully, the nurse found out THEN that the headrest wasn’t properly tightened. My blood pressure was taken, I was hooked up to an EKG and had a pulse monitor hooked up to my finger. The, I was told to squeeze a rubber ball to enlarge my vein for the IV, which went in without a hitch. A few seconds later, I felt like I was levitating out of the chair towards the darkening ceiling tiles…cool. The ball dropped to the floor and was promptly collected by the nurse (or so I would imagine…). I then opened my eyes and saw three surgeons working in my mouth. Just saw, no feeling. Shortly after, I awoke and promptly asked the nurse if I could “keep a tooth as a souvenir”. She replied “No, we threw those out. You should’ve told me that before the surgery, hon.” She took hold of my arm and directed me to a small post-op room with a little vinyl bed. My mom picked me up and took me home, where I merrily hummed myself upstairs and into bed. Two hours later, I woke up, changed the gauze, and had some pudding. I was troubled that my lower right lip and chin had not regained feeling yet. Nerve damage? I went to sleep at 1:30 AM and woke up at 6:30 AM with fully-restored feeling in my lip. I was thrilled, that was one hurdle down. I carefully ate pudding, melted ice cream and applesauce during this second day. My lower-left extraction site was slowly bleeding. Near the end of the day, I rinsed with salt water. My knees became quite warm and achy in the mid-afternoon. I slept much better on this second night. I awoke on the third day feeling better than I had the previous evening. However, although my lower-left sight had stopped bleeding, my lower right had started bleeding! Again, this is slow bleeding, noticeable only when you look into your mouth and see blood between the cusps of the adjacent molars. This stopped by the noon hour. I ate my “hardest” food yet, a mushed-up banana. The only pain I am feeling is a very mild discomfort in my lower-left sight. My tongue looks gross, rather yellow and bumpy, and I try to scrape it carefully with a spoon with limited success. My breath isn’t pleasant, but it isn’t awful either. I can only brush my front two teeth. I rinsed twice today with salt water, the rinsing being filling my mouth with the solution and slowly tilting my head from side-to-side. It has now been about 56 hours since my operation and have yet to experience anything too unpleasant. During this period, I have been on 2 or 3 Ibuprofen taken 3 times per day. I have had no swelling whatsoever.

anyone that reads this and has not had their wisdom teeth removed, get them out of your mouth now! im 23 and i just had all four of mine removed a few hours ago. i cannot tell you how scared shitless i was because i didnt want chances of permenant nerve damage. but if one of your teeth get infected like mine did, you will beg to have them removed. i almost cried from the fucking pain of my infected tooth. i did not feel pain from the tooth extraction though. they doped me up damn good. i didnt worry about a damn thing. chicken noodle is my best friend right now. im about to also have pudding mixed with whipped cream. yum. i got the good (expensive drugs) although now i wish i hadnt. my only regret is that i didnt get the local anestetic for a cheapper price. good luck to anyone else out there getting ready for an extraction

word of advice……keep the gause in it and no worry i just dont eat for 2 days but i smoke coming out of the office not saying to do like me just a story of wisdom teeth

i have all 4 of mine the top ones are coming in the correct way and the bottoms are impacted, a few years ago i had surgery for apendex and that anesthesia shit made me sick as hell and i rather have infected gums or whatever its called to be put on that suff again, is there anyway i can just be numbed to have this done, for those of you who know how do i approach this

To answer your question Rich, any good oral surgeon can numb you enough so you’ll feel NOTHING while he/she is removing the teeth. I am in the process of having three wisdom teeth pulled and am doing one at a time. I think it’s MUCH easier to deal with one hole at a time. You also have the other side to chew on. I have one more to go. I had #17 dug out on Feb. 6 and it was quite aweful. I had #16 pulled on March 26 and it was MUCH easier than a lower. I have #1 coming out on April 16th and I’m not even worried at all. I just have him shoot in something to numb it up and I personally don’t feel a thing while he’s working. Rich, remember that lowers are worse than uppers because the bone in the lower jaw is much harder and dense than the upper jaw. Impacted lowers make things much worse. TAKE TIME OFF OF WORK for the lowers is my recommendation to you. I did and I’m glad I did. The uppers so far I’ve taken only that day off and it was no problem at all. Uppers heal much faster than lowers. Good Luck!

I just had all four of my wisdom teeth taken out last week Tuesday 4-10-07. So far so good sat at home for a couple days went and ate mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and salmon the night after so i hadn’t eaten for two days. Pudding and other soft foods aren’t that bad eggs are ok too. I will write again after it is all done. Oh yeah I am glad I went out completely plus haven’t taken a single codeine yet!!! No need pain isn’t that bad.

I’m 34 and I had 4 wisdom teeth removed a week ago. I was very nervous for the weeks leading up to it. I was knocked out (general anesthesia) and I recommend it to anyone. Don’t eat or drink anything 6-8 hours before. It can make you sick to your stomach. I didn’t and I felt fine after the surgery. After they started the IV I remember thinking “this kinda feels nice” and the next thing I know I hear,”Chris, wake up.” It was all over and it felt like only 1 or 2 minutes passed. I was under for about 40 minutes. The rest of the day I took it easy and ate tomato soup, mashed potatoes, applesauce, yogurt, and juice. I took my pain medicine and kept an ice pack on and I had very little pain or swelling. I kept the gauze in my mouth for about 4 hours to minimize bleeding. I changed the gauze every hour or so. The numbing agent wore off about 12 hours after the surgery. The entire process is no where near as bad as I thought it was going to be and to be honest I was freaked out by reading a lot of horror stories from other people. After all is said and done I’m a bit embarrased by how much of a baby I am for putting it off for so long. It was really not bad at all. Just a lot of soreness. Good luck to anyone who is reading this and about to get the procedure done. If you are nervous, relax a bit. It was really not bad at all.

Hmmm, Had my teeth out on monday, it’s now the following monday and i still have no feeling on my bottom lip and chin. I hope this isn’t nerve damage. went to a dental surgeon hoping there would be less chance of it.

Ok.. I only had one wisdom tooth pulled last friday and i am still in extreme pain. The side of my face is still swollen and so is my throat..therefore, i have not eaten really anything for the last 3-4 days.. which is sooo not healthy. I can barely take my medication. The surgeons keeps having me come in to the office and prescribing me new medicine, which sucks because it is like impossible to swallow. And the bottom of my mouth, under my tongue, keeps getting swollen also, a very weird feeling. I had extreme pain on Thursday when i went to my dentist, and then they referred me to a surgeon to have it done that day. I was going to get the local anesthesia but the surgeon recommended doing the general because i was in sooooooo much pain. Therefore, i had to wait until the next morning. I have three more teeth to go, and i am definelty going to put them off as long as i can.

Now we know the “DCB” is a bad writer and a girly man.

I just got mine out (hours ago) and it’s not that bad! I’m a 21 year old female and had all four removed, local freezing only, bottoms impacted. I am definitely glad I didn’t spend the extra money for general. It was good not to feel “out of it” and I could have easily drove myself home right after. It only took 15 minutes in total to remove all 4 and the sounds aren’t horrifying at all. (My bottom 2 were broken up) Hardly any worse than a normal cleaning, really. I had about 15 needles but they are so fast and quick you hardly even know they’re happening. Everyone’s experience is different though so people really shouldn’t read these things beforehand like me. haha. Here’s to hoping for a quick recovery and minimal chipmunk cheeks! So far so good! If you haven’t got yours out yet, don’t worry at all. You’ll be glad to get rid of those little buggers :)

i have two or maybe 4 that needs to be removed the one on my right side is very sharp and im just scared to go through the surgery.. is it true that you can die from a rooten tooth ? i really dont wanna die at a early age but then again i rather be in heaven with the creator of all things that would make me happier then being on this green earth cause it feels like hell to me already so what should i do?

Yes, you can die from a rotten tooth…but it’s MUCH easier to just go have the tooth pulled. As for your theory of dying at a young age to go to heaven…this whole ‘life on earth’ thing is WAY too nice to just blow it off. I think you should hang around a while.

Here’s some advice…go have your wisdom teeth pulled ONE AT A TIME. MUCH easier to deal with. Then, focus on the POSITIVES in life!

heh, i’m getting my removed soon i have 5 wisdom. My bottom right is turned side ways onto my other tooth infront of it. I’m only 16 and i have to get 4 removed or the dentist said it would cause alot of pain because i have HUGE ones…. i’ve always had big teeth problems

Dude, I just got them pulled today and my only problem was all the fucking blood. A couple of hours and the bleeding slowed down and now barely any blood is coming out. I will not take pills for the pain b/c it’s not that bad but I will take the medicine to prevent infection. *my head hurts…*

Kevin- I had the same fears about the surgery and from dying from an infected tooth. The surgery was very, very, very easy. Nothing to worry about at all. Read my post a few weeks back to see about my experience. Go ahead and schedule surgery, it is no where near as scary as many posts have made it out to be.

I thought I would share my horror story about my wisdom tooth removal. I had one wisdom tooth that had got a cavity in it. It took me months to get into a dentist to get the referral for a oral surgeon. When I finally went to the surgeon he said I needed to be sedated because of my TMJ disease in my jaw. He said it would help my jaw relax so he could open my mouth far enough to do the surgery. Well when I came back for the removal they put me out. Even under the sedation my mother heard me screaming in the waiting room. They woke me up to tell me they started the first extraction only to have to stitch me up and schedule it to be done at the local hospital. They said everytime they opened my mouth too far I quit breathing, so they needed to tube me so I could breath through surgery. When that day finally came for my surgery they knocked me out cold. When I woke they informed me it was the hardest extraction they ever performed and my face showed it the next day. I was black and blue down the left side of my face. They also told me they left the root to one wisdom tooth because it was wrapped around another tooth. The recovery was awful. My jaw locked and the side of my face had muscle spasms so bad it felt like my face was being slashed and i would scream and cry in pain and it would scare the hell out of my children. To this day I have terrible pain in the tooth that he left the nerves wrapped around.

I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled on May 17th. Im allergic to almost every pain med possible, and last time i had been put to sleep i woke up having seizures, because of being allergic to everything. So i was VERY VERY scared for the surgery. My top two werent impacted, but my bottom 2 were .. My bottom left tooth had gotten infected about 3 weeks ago, and it was by far the worst pain ive ever been through. My jaw was swollen, i couldnt open my mouth, i couldnt eat. So i would DEFINITLY recommend getting your teeth out if they are impacted. Because eventually they will cause you problems. Im 21 and was told when i was 15 to have them out, and i waited and i waited. I wish i wouldnt have. The initial surgery went great. I sat down in the chair, they gave me some laughing gas, and the nurse came in a gave me my IV. The rest is a blur. I remember nothing but waking up at my house about 6 hours later and asking my mom if they took my teeth out. Waking up sucked, because i was in TONS of pain. I could only take 800mg of Ibuprofen. So i took 2 of those and i was fine. I was off work Thurs-Mon. Its tuesday and im back at work. Dont have much pain. Still a little swollen and my jaw just aches. I go back Thursday for my follow up. Overall, i would recommend getting them out. It sucks the first 4-5 days but in the end its worth it. Im the biggest sissy ever and if i can get it done, anyone can. Believe me lol.

As for me my lower right wisdom tooth was impacting and i didnt realise until it was too late and my molar next to the wisdom tooth had to be removed ( i just thoguht it was growing pains from the wisdom tooth!) then i started to have the “growing pain” sensation in my lower left wisdom tooth, so i thought best to get it took out before i lose my left molar due to impacting, but once it came out i had dry socket for 2 weeks.. and now about a month later im getting ear ache and headache pain that starts from the gap where my left wisdom tooth use to be…joy

I had an impacted tooth & was in extreme pain.
The doctor “Decided” that he was going to take ALL of them out. I was hell for days on end. Mashed Potatoes, Baby food, Slim Fast, & Chicken soup were the only foods keeping me alive.
Oh, and I drooled the first night since my face was the size of a damn house.
I made sure to get the IV cause with four wisdom teeth being extracted, I did NOT want to remember ANY of it.

BTW: Women are not physically weak. Hey, we deal with Periods every month. I’ve heard many cramp horror stories.

I had to have 5 teeth pilled at once, all 4 wisdom and one of my back teeth, molar I think it’s called. Anywho, it really wasn’t so bad. From reading what a lot of posts are saying it seems they are only trying to scare people out of getting it done, and trust me whatever pain you do feel during the operation, is nowhere close to what you can feel by not having it done..

and Kevin, get your teeth fixed/pulled you still have a life to live here don’t let things keep ya down. Fight it back kick butt and take names, show them whos boss. I used to feel the same way about things and it isn’t a good feeling I know. Remember, it’s the hard workers that gets the big loot in the end. Show em you can do it! :)

I get mine out next month and I’m 50. Only two. I wish i did it when i was 20 cause now i can wind up losing the next tooth due to bone loss and they will be much harder to get out. if you still got them, get rid of them. Not only am I up for more complications, dental bills can go into the thousands now, if the other teeth go. What an idiot I was to just let them sit. Anyone reading this whose debating, just do it. Take a few days off work and have a vicodin party til you feel better.

I am getting my wisdom tooth removed tomarrow an d i am more afraid of th side affects of the anestesia than what i am of the procedure itself!!!!!!!

It’s not as bad as i thought it would be, but it’s not as good as i’d hoped. I’ve had countless reconstructive surgerys over my lifetime and ridiculously enough this was the most pleasant. Last wednesday I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed…along with the other 24..at once..3 hour surgery. I had em knock me out for this one. Just turned 28 so happy bday to me. Today is the first day I am not disorientatingly uncomfortable. It doesn’t feel like i ate a bowl of crushed razorblades anymore. Just a strong burning sensation. Bottom lip and left bottom jaw are nice and numb yet feel like there is a dagger sticking through them. mmm How i long to eat anything but pudding, mashed potatos, and slim fast. I say get it done. It only hurts when your heart beats.

i just got mine out about 7 days ago and i no longer have swelling now but i just have alittle pain in my right jaw, i guess they really struggled getting the bottom right one out. the procedure wasnt that bad it only lasted an hour and i dont remember that day at all barely… all i remember is laughing gas, the needle and the doctor saying…”in about 20 sec. you will feel a warm fuzzy feeling.” lets just say i didnt feel anything i just was out in 2 sec. after that i just remember waking up 15 hours later in pain and going out to get cigarettes at midnight. my mom who took care of me while i was asleep says i walked to the car after the procedure and “watched” movies with her for awhile when i got home but i dont remember…i think that was a good thing! well i glad its over now but i hate that now whenever i eat anything i have to get that serenge and fill it full of water to flush out anything stuck in the four holes in the back of my mouth.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled about 5 years ago,
The top 2 had come out crooked, the bottom ones were fine.
Being a niave 20 year old and a big overseas working holiday ahead of me i decide to get them all pulled.
The surgery was fine, after was very painful, nothing some panadols cant fix. The years after I have had nothing but troubles. My jaw has shrunk in size, i get constant problems with nerves in my face and im constantly concious of the problem, my jaw has problems resting comfortably where once it did on my lower wisdom teeth and so i constantly grind them causing more pain and problems, this is after 5 years!!!
To any one who is thinking of getting their teeth pulled, think again please. ONLY GET THEM OUT IF THEY ARE CAUSING YOU PROBLEMS, DONT JUST GET THEM OUT BECAUSE SOME DOCTOR THINKS YOU SHOULD!

I am getting my wisdom teetho ut tomorrow (july 6th) and I’m soo scared. I hate needles and aparently the drugs make you feel high/drunk, which i havent even experienced =[
